Progress on an animated Bone movie (or trilogy) is moving forward, with a writer, director, and studio attached to the project.
Not sure how to feel that the studio is the same one that brought us Happy Feet and Legend of the Guardians, though…
I guess at least that means more jobs for Australian animators?
In terms of films, Animal Logic’s greatest fault is their apparent lack in planning out the story - if you think of say, Pixar, there is a huge amount of time spent in pre-production ironing out all of the details before anyone even thinks of firing up Maya (or at least the company version of it).
I know for a fact, during the production of Legend of the Guardians, heaps and heaps of people left (we’re talking about 200+ here) which could explain the overall quality to an extent.
My old college animation teacher modelled the Dragon in Sucker Punch was also working on models for Bone - this was back in 2010/2009 mind so they may have been scrapped but we got to see the character models for Fone Bone and Thorn (I thought Fone looked pretty good but they used bone-y (porus) texture for his skin? Thorn looked nice but I thought her design was a little generic).
Apparently a lot of animators are out of work at the moment so this is actually really good new for some of my friends who have been looking for work!
